Strategic Planning:
Facilitation+Execution

The most brilliant strategic plans are worthless if not executed effectively.

More times than not, a simple plan, well-executed, is far more effective than highly-detailed strategies that are bogged down with too many contingencies, excessive moving parts or complex interdependencies. We are unique in that our focus is squarely centered on a team's ability to execute, rather than their soaring dreams and lofty aspirations.

Our Process and How we Work:

We facilitate offsite events and conversations that bring executives to agreement around their most pressing challenges and strategic priorities. Options are mapped against implementation complexity and resource constraints in order to focus on the solutions with the greatest potential for successful execution.

Inherent in our process is the focused discipline to limit the scope of strategic initiatives. We drive teams to make the tough decisions about limited resources (time, money, people, bandwidth) so that they can execute on a narrow set of imperatives. That means, some appealing opportunities will be set-aside in favor of more strategic investments. We are experts at facilitating those spirited debates. We get the group to agree on a crisp set of corporate priorities, along with accountabilities, timelines and investment criteria.

Strategic prioritization takes courage because it's human nature for those impacted to defend and protect their funding, special projects and people. Despite perfectly reasonable arguments, the team must stay committed to the refined set of new priorities and avoid strategic drift. These sessions can quickly degenerate and lead to very poor outcomes without an independent, professional facilitator who is skilled at building bridges of consensus.

Once the strategic imperatives are established, we stay involved to guide the team toward the development and finer-points of implementation. Who is actually going to do the work of implementation, and how are they going to find the time? Working sessions across departments may follow, because the hard work of execution may involve the re-allocation of resources (budgets and people), the re-prioritization of work streams and the tough choices about addressing competing priorities.
